The management of default optimisation flags has evolved a lot during the lifetime of ABINIT 5, and needs now to be improved. In particular, the numerous redundancies should be suppressed.

Motivation

The database of optimisation flags is currently maintained as a directory tree which has slowly become larger and larger with time. When optimisation levels have been introduced, nothing has been done to take care of integrating this new feature with the database, which has resulted in massive duplications of information. The time has now come to fix this once and for all.

Assumptions

Who knows?

Proposal

Implementation

Coming soon ...

Deliverables

  1. XML Schema defining the structure of the database.
  2. XML file containing the actual database.
  3. Management tool, probably with GUI.
  4. Export feature matching the constraints of the Autotools.

Risks

The database consists in a bunch of text fles and is currently barely maintainable. The proposed developments will not cause any service interruption. Hence there are no real risks in implementing this.
