There is often a compromise between speed and precision. For users of ABINIT, input variables allows to adjust the default trade-off. Compared with other well-known codes, ABINIT usually favors more the precision, at the expense of speed. However, it is perfectly possible to get the same speed (or even better speed), by tuning the ABINIT usage !
